The age of the rock is estimated to be 2500 million years old
and the age of the arch is computed as 1500 million years.

దాదాపుగా 15 అడుగులు ఎత్తు, 25 అడుగుల వెడల్పు వున్న సహజ సిద్దమైన శిలాతోరణం ఈ శిలాతోరణం కొన్ని వందల కోట్ల సంవత్సరాలకు (డైనోసార్ ల కంటే పూర్వం) పూర్వం తీవ్రమైన నీటికోతలకు గురై ఏర్పడినదని భౌగోళిక శాస్త్రజ్ఞుల అభిప్రాయం. అంటే ఒకప్పుడు ఇంత ఎత్తు వరకూ నీటితో నిండి వుండేదన్నమ్మాట. అంటే భాగవతాది పురాణాలు చెప్పిన 'వటపత్రశాయి'కథ నిజమై వుండవచ్చు.
ప్రపంచంలో వున్న మూడే మూడు సహజసిద్ద శిలాతోరణాలలో ఇది ఒకటి. ఇంకొక విచిత్రం ఏమిటంటే ఈ తోరణం మీద ఎవరూ చెక్కని సహజ సిద్దమైన శంఖం, చక్రం, స్వామివారి వర(ద)హస్తం, కటి హస్తం, పాదాలు, గరుడ పక్షి, నాగాభరణం వున్నాయి.
